What is colon hydrotherapy and what can I expect?
Colon hydrotherapy is a complete, extensive and advanced method of colon cleansing. Purified, temperature regulated water is gently infused into the colon via the rectum to remove old stagnant and accumulated waste from the large intestine. The waste is softened and loosened, resulting in evacuation through natural peristalsis. The gentle infusion of purified water is both refreshing and relaxing making this a positive and pleasant experience.
Is colon hydrotherapy safe?
Yes, today with modern technological advancements in this field the equipment is state of the art and FDA certified, offering you a safe, gentle and effective method of colon cleansing. Disposable single-use kits are used. This sophisticated technology promotes both safety and sanitation.
How does colon hydrotherapy compare to an enema?
A standard enema involves the infusion of aqueous substance (one way) into the rectum which is retained and evacuated. The enema’s cleansing ability is limited to the rectosigmoid area. Colon hydrotherapy is a complete and extensive method of colon cleansing due to the continual bathing of the colon. Colon hydrotherapy extends beyond the natural expulsion area to offer greater cleansing and therapeutic benefits. One colon irrigation is equivalent to 30 enemas.
What should I do to prepare for colon hydrotherapy?
No fasting is required prior to treatment. A light meal (s) the day of treatment is recommended. This will make your colon hydrotherapy session more effective and comfortable as your abdomen will be gently massaged. Wellnez clients will be given a dietary health plan following their Initial visit. We do recommend some dietary modifications to enhance your colon hydrotherapy sessions. This is an important component in order to achieve optimal results from your sessions and treatment program. Follow any medical guidelines you have been given by your primary care practitioner.
How many sessions will I need?
After your first colonic your therapist will be able to advise you on how many treatments you may need based on several factors:
- What is observed during the treatment
- Your health history
- Your current level of bowel build-up- that is, how functional your bowel is
- Your bowel health
- Your health and fitness goals
Generally a series of treatments are necessary, then, depending on the individual, a client will benefit from additional colonics throughout a year. It is important to note, that this process is removing matter that has been built upon the colon wall over many years.
Will a colonic help my skin?
Your skin is your body’s largest organ and it “breathes”, allowing for the elimination of waste material. Sometimes if the colon, liver or kidneys are functioning poorly, the skin will be required to work harder but results in surface eruptions on the skin of various sorts due to toxins being released. Cleaning the colon diminishes the burden placed upon the skin as well as the other organs of elimination: lungs, liver and kidneys. As elimination is improved through its proper channels, the skin will often not only clear up but may clients discuss a feeling of “glowing”.
How and why does Reflexology work?
Newcomers to Reflexology are sometimes baffled by how precise pressure on specific areas of the feet can affect the whole health of the body. The reason this works is because reflexes link each part of the body to a special area on the feet and hands. The nervous system serves as the connection. With proper manipulation of the reflex points, a reflex action is produced through the nerve endings.
How long is a session and how often should one receive Reflexology?
Typically, the first session is one hour and includes an interview in order to collect important information pertinent to the state of your health. Subsequent sessions usually take approximately 30-40 minutes depending on an individual's need. If the client is interested in an acceleration of their body's healing process or is in an environment of much stress at work or home, frequent shorter sessions may be recommended. One to three times a week may be most beneficial for a period of time, then once a month for preventive maintenance. The client will also be shown self-help techniques that can be used at home.
How is Reflexology Different from Massage or a Pedicure?
Nail technicians are trained specifically to improve the hygiene and beauty of the feet by using tools to remove layers of skin cells, trim the cuticles and nails and applying polish to the nails. It incorporates lower leg and foot massage strokes intended for relaxation. A pedicure is not touted as a therapeutic modality but a beauty treatment.

What actually happens during a facial treatment?
Facials generally consist of scrub and a face massage followed by a face mask. You’ll be asked to remove the clothing from the top part of your body and you will be provided with a towel and blanket to cover up. If you have long hair, we would also tie this back to keep it out of the way. A facial treatment is one of the most relaxing and rewarding beauty treatments you can have.
Can’t I just use soap and water?
Soaps are detergent based and can alter the pH level of your skin. While soap is good for cleaning, it is not generally effective for maintaining the youthful appearance of your skin. Soap can strip the skin of its natural protective layer of oil leaving the skin dry and susceptible to bacterial infections and blemishes.
